IRStats Features
IRStats provides two main functions for integrating usage statistics into your Institutional Repository: analytical fragments and the IRStats dashboard.
An analytical fragment provides a small chunk of HTML that can be included in an existing page to provide usage analysis to visitors. These fragments are generated by the View modules. A View is a light-weight module that renders a subset of hits as a table or graph. The subset can be specified using two dimensions: sets and time. A set is a collection of eprints that is opaque to IRStats - they are specified using CSV input files. In practise a set is likely to be 'eprints by an author', 'eprints by a school' and so on. The hits can also be constrained to a particular time period, for instance hits in the 'last month'.
The IRStats dashboard provides a breakdown of usage for a given eprint or set. This is a convenience tool that allows a number of Views to be rendered on a single page and would typically be linked to from an eprint's abstract page or author's home page.
