There has been a recent exchange of emails over the ease of install of EPrints. For the next release there needs to be a review of the install process and procedures and improvements made. We will use this bug to track the issues related to the install process. |

Permissions is an attempt to streamline permissions within the EPrints system (see Actions). The current permissions implementation is different to the existing data objects. It doesn't have revision numbers (#1853) and currently has bespoke access methods in Database. This may be bad. Permissions may help support #863. In the current design it could allow access to all files to a sub-domain (EPRINT_VIEW_FILES_ALL). See #1893 |

Each document needs a place which could store the captured format information for each file. This could either be stored in the filesystem, perhaps as an extension of the hash functions. Or it could be stored in the database. |

Hi, I would like to suggest to include support for reiserfs in Filesystem/Diskspace.pm. Those IDs work: 1382369651 => "REISERFS", 29513 => "REISERFS", right now, I don't remember why I've got 2 IDs. I huess one should be enough. Regards, Christian |

RSS links are currently unfriendly/confusing for users who are unfamiliar with RSS (clicking on them just downloads a file called "latest tool"). EPrints needs a simple but functional interface for adding fields to live archives that handles the SQL and ArchiveMetadataFieldsConfig?.pm mechanics out of sight. By extension, this interface should also let an admin upload an XML Schema and create several fields in one go. Of course, EPrints may already have equivalents for some of the schema fields, and two different uploaded schemas could also have equivalent fields. So we would need to capture the mapping between EPrints fields and the various schema fields -> this could even generate an OAI output stub/plugin. |

"Request Restricted Documents" is v. bad (Harnad) - I agree. How about "Request a copy "? Or "Request a copy from the author" (way too long for a button). May need some extra explanatory text on the abstract page to explain exactly what this means. Harnad suggests that we also need to make it clear in the deposit process that if you deposit something as private or restricted it could be requested via email. But this may not always be the case (if no contact email can be derived, we do not offer the option). Could this potentially put depositors off? Sounds like a policy issue we need to take some advice on. |
